Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch and inaugurate development projects worth over ₹13,000 crore during his visit to Chennai on Sunday.
According to his schedule, Modi will take a ride on the Chennai Metro with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, offer prayers at the Jalakandeswarar Temple and attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
"Development works worth over Rs 13,000 crore will either be launched or have their foundation stones laid in Chennai tomorrow, 11th October," Modi said in a post on X on Saturday evening.
Among the key projects, the prime minister will inaugurate the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, built at a cost of around ₹4,900 crore.
The corridor features advanced signalling systems designed to support driverless operations and is expected to improve connectivity between Chennai's rapidly expanding western suburbs and the city centre.
Modi will also inaugurate projects and lay the foundation stones for key National Highway works worth around ₹3,700 crore. These include the 36-km, four-laned Vadugapatti–Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744, which is expected to improve connectivity to important pilgrimage, industrial and commercial centres in the region.
Other road projects scheduled for inauguration include the 30-km, four-laned Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A and the four-laned Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83.
The prime minister will dedicate and inaugurate railway infrastructure projects worth over ₹750 crore. These include the Karaikal–Peralam railway line, three railway flyovers in Coimbatore and five Amrit Stations at Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi and Namakkal.
In the port sector, Modi will inaugurate four infrastructure projects at Chennai Port and eight major development projects at V.O. Chidambaranar Port. He will also inaugurate the Coal Berth-3 project and lay the foundation stone for capital dredging works for Container Terminal Phase I, Stage II, at Kamarajar Port.
