Delhi PWD Minister and senior BJP leader Parvesh Verma has been accused of slapping a youth at the city’s Tilak Nagar on Sunday. The incident allegedly happened during the minister’s road inspection.
A post by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on X said the minister lost his cool on seeing the “road of BJP’s corruption being dug up right before his eyes”. It also shared a video of a man showing the state of a poorly laid road.
“Today, in Tilak Nagar Assembly, seeing the road of BJP's corruption being dug up right before his eyes, Minister Parvesh Verma got so rattled that he slapped a boy who was making a video there. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh exposed the BJP government right in front of the minister's eyes, and the minister lost his temper. A minister who resorts to such slaps should not be in the government, but in jail,” the post read.
Jarnail Singh also shared the video of Verma slapping a youth who was recording the minister. “He is the PWD Minister of the BJP government in India's capital, Delhi. He had come to inspect the road, but seeing the scams being exposed, he lost his temper and started a scuffle with my colleague who was recording the video,” the post read.
The victim, identified as Saheb Singh, said he handled the social media of Jarnail Singh. "I handle all social media activities for the MLA. The PWD department called us to inspect the road. I showed the minister how the road surface was crumbling. The minister couldn't tolerate it, and he hit me," he said.
Saheb Singh added that the whole incident happened in front of the police. “They should apologise and take any necessary disciplinary action. There is video evidence of everything. We have filed an FIR and will take further action,” he added.
However, Verma denied the allegations. "Learn the truth behind the video being circulated by Aam Aadmi Party members. Road construction work has been ongoing on the Vikaspuri Ring Road for several days. Local MLA Jarnail Singh was asking the PWD engineers to connect him with the contractor and get him a commission."
He added that an engineer had filed a complaint at the police station. “They threatened they would tear up the road because they weren’t paid their commission. They also threatened us that they would make a video accusing us of corruption,” he alleged.
