The police investigation into the murder of millionaire pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha has taken a new turn with the police arresting his son, Subrata Minocha. Earlier, the police officers had zeroed in on Shalu, Vineet’s daughter-in-law, for hiring murderers.
Police said the investigation has revealed Subrata's role in the murder conspiracy, based on the statement given during interrogation by the accused, Vishal. He had served the family as a servant for years.
Subrata allegedly levelled serious character allegations against his father during interrogation. "My father was a characterless person. My father had affairs with many women and would spend lakhs of rupees on his own debauchery, but would give me the money in small amounts. His debauchery had brought me notoriety in society, which made me feel ashamed. Fed up, I gave my servant a contract to kill him,” he said.
Subrato said he feared that his father might marry one of the women and give her a share of the property. His father often showed him pictures of his female friends, which angered him. For this reason, his mother lives separately from him in Ghaziabad.
He said he was remorseful after Shalu went to jail. “Because of this, I started taking sleeping pills. If I hadn't been arrested, I would have committed suicide by taking sleeping pills," he told police.
He also allegedly confessed to having hired the killers to make the murder look like a heart attack. “I hired my servant Vishal to kill my father and stage it as an accident. He refused, and then we plotted to make the murder look like a heart attack. I told Vishal and Rajkishore that one man would hold his hands and legs, and the other would suffocate him with a pillow. But they stabbed her to death,” he said.
Subrata told the police that his father gave him Rs 40,000 every month, but he was deeply in debt. "To meet expenses and pay instalments, I had to steal from my own shop seven or eight times," he said.
Meanwhile, local media reports said Subrata had instructed him to implicate Shalu if he was caught. Despite this revelation, Shalu broke down in tears in front of police officers on Thursday. "Let my husband go free. I'm willing to go to jail in his place. I had no idea my husband was involved in this,” she added.
