West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, on Wednesday, handed over land to several industrialists, promising to turn the state into an industrial hub in the near future.
Adhikari said that he had met Anant Ambani two days ago at the Ambani residence in Mumbai and that a team from the group would visit West Bengal the following week.
“In Ganpati Utsav, the Ambani family invited me last week, but I met with them the day before yesterday. Mukesh Ambani ji and Anant Ambani ji were there at their house. They assured me that they will invest in four-five sectors. They are preparing and sending a big team. Next week, Ambani ji and his full team will come here and start multiple projects here,” said Adhikari.
On Thursday, a 2,000-bed hospital will be inaugurated in the Newtown area in the presence of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. The CM also spoke about the Tajpur deep-sea port, which was proposed to be developed by the Adani Group during the erstwhile Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.
Adhikari said Karan Adani met him at the state secretariat and enquired about the Tajpur deep-sea port.
“He said, no land, not a single acre of land. I sought his advice. He said shift it to Dadanpatrabar, the best place for a deep-sea port. We have 1,700 acres of land,” added Adhikari.
Plans to develop Haldia, Kulpi and Kolkata Port are also in the works as part of efforts to turn the state into a shipping hub.
Aiming to build a strong association with industrialists, eliminate middlemen and prevent demands for cut money, the government has launched a helpline number to address concerns. In addition to this, the CM will meet industrialists twice a month to ensure smooth business growth in the state.
The BJP is trying to portray its government as industry-friendly and distance itself from the previous regimes, while banking on the promise of a double-engine government. After coming to power in May this year, Indian and foreign investors have shown interest in investing in West Bengal, instilling hope in a state that has long been deprived of lucrative employment opportunities.
