The CBI, on Monday, registered an FIR in connection with the death of Disha Salian, former manager of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, naming, among others, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.

The others named in the FIR include actors Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Rhea Chakraborty, and Showik Chakraborty, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, and former police officer Sachin Vaze.

According to a Times of India report, the FIR also includes the names of former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, police officers, forensic officials, and doctors.

According to the FIR, “The then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, father of Aaditya Thackeray, and others also played a significant role in the conspiracy and subsequent cover-up. The concerned public servants and police officers are also liable to be investigated for destruction or suppression of case papers, files, and other public records, fabrication of official records, and misuse of public funds, manpower, and police machinery for unlawful purposes and for shielding the offenders.”

The FIR against Aaditya Thackeray comes a few days after Nilesh Ojha, lawyer of Disha Salian's father, Satish Salian, had said, "We have come to file an FIR regarding the gang-rape and murder case against Aaditya Thackeray and others. Secondly, in addition to our existing evidence, we also possess Sachin Vaze's extra-judicial confession... despite the availability of evidence with the Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB officer Sanjay Singh failed to file a chargesheet against the accused—Aaditya Thackeray, Dino Morea, and others—for six years. Since the corruption involved has surfaced during the inquiry, we are seeking a separate investigation."

Disha Salian, who had briefly worked as Rajput's manager, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.

A week later, Rajput was found dead in his apartment on June 14, 2020, triggering speculation about a possible link between the two deaths.

The uproar following Rajput's death led the Maharashtra government to order a CBI probe into it. The agency subsequently submitted a closure report stating that Rajput died by suicide.

Earlier this month, the Bombay High Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Salian's death and pulled up Mumbai Police for failing to register an FIR for six years, observing that its investigation "raises more questions than answers."
