Wind gusts could reach 75 km/h in parts of the region, bringing a severe combination of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across multiple states.
Heavy rain alert in 20 states
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Kerala, Tripura, and Nagaland.
Delhi braces for flash floods
In Delhi, wind speeds are expected to reach 45 to 50 kilometres per hour. Due to rain and strong winds, waterlogging and traffic congestion may increase in Delhi-NCR. Heavy rain is expected to continue till September 16.
Light to moderate showers with lightning are expected in many areas on Saturday morning. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD forecast, it will be cloudy between September 13 and 16, and light rain or showers may occur in some areas.
Rain alert for UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh
In UP, heavy rain alerts have been issued for Meerut, Mathura, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Prayagraj. Winds could blow at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour in these areas.
Bad weather is also expected in several districts of Bihar today. Aurangabad, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Gaya, Rohtas, Siwan, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Khagaria, and Jehanabad are on alert for thunderstorms and rain.
The weather will also remain poor in Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain alerts have been issued for Chhindwara, Seoni, Guna, Morena, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Khandwa, Indore, Ujjain, Vidisha, Narsinghpur, and Neemuch. Wind speeds in these areas could reach 50 kilometres per hour.
Heavy rains in mountainous states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand could increase the risk of landslides.
Fishermen have been advised to exercise extreme caution in coastal states like West Bengal and Odisha due to the storm-like conditions.
