Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj has been arrested and sent to one-day police custody on Saturday.
Bhardwaj, 21 and others are accused of assaulting Sajay Azad, 38, who was protesting with his daughter at the Jantar Mantar on June 23.
Bhardwaj was produced at the residence of Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler at around 2 pm. His legal aid appeared before the judge through video conferencing.
The FIR against Bhardwaj, registered on the day of the assault, initially mentions BNS section 115(2) (causing simple hurt) and 126(2) (wrongful restraint), HT report.
After the CJP protests, Delhi police added provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation to the FIR against Bhardwaj. He also has a POCSO case registered against him on Friday. The fresh FIR is based on the victim's daughter’s complaint alleging online threats and harassment.
The minor had alleged earlier that she received rape threats and verbal abuse and morphed images after she spoke out about the assault on her father,
The sections were added after Bhardwaj claimed that he cracked the skull of the activist's father during the July 20 protest and escaped arrest because of his political connections.
"I cracked the skull... Do you know which section this crime attracts? Section 307. He needed 60 stitches," Bhardwaj said in the interview.
Delhi police had earlier said that the man’s injuries were simple and the cause was a steel bracelet.
Bhardwaj later claimed that he acted in self-defence.
The developments came after CJP representatives met police officials at the Parliament Street police station, accompanied by Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad.
