Tamil Nadu BJP State president Nainar Nagendren is under fire for his recent comments on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
At a press conference held at the BJP’s headquarters the Nainar said, “If you go search for where your father is in the legislative assembly, how will you know? Go home, ask your mother who your father is. If you search for your father in the assembly, how would they know?”
A complaint against Nainar was filed at the Chennai DGP’s office shortly after the comments went viral.
The complaint was filed online by one lawyer, Varthini, who alleged that Nainar Nagendran made defamatory comments about Chief Minister Vijay and his mother.
The petition stated that Nainar's speeches were slanderous and hateful and that the comments hurt her as a woman and mother.
Local reports also stated that there was backlash to the comments within the party.
The 'where is your father' comment was reportedly a reference to an earlier comment by the CM directed at DMK leader MK Stalin. The CM had received criticism for asking, “Where is your father?” to Udhayanidhi Stalin at the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The comment was seen as a jibe at the DMK chief who lost his Kolathur seat in the recent elections.
Stalin had later responded, saying that he was in “the hearts of the people.”
TVK minister Rajmohan Arumugam condemned Nairnar’s comments on Saturday. He said that he should speak civilly and that “hidden relations in Tamil Nadu politics would be exposed.” He also said that the TVK is aiming to eradicate corruption.
Minister Vinoth, meanwhile, demanded that Nainar publicly apologise to the CM and the people of the state for the indecent remarks.
Earlier, Nagendran stirred controversy for his remarks on actress Trisha.
