The Kerala Police Cyber Crime wing has filed an FIR against Hindutva ideologue T.G. Mohandas over the controversial comments he made in a YouTube video about the students who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest.

Mohandas, a former head of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) intellectual cell, has been booked under BNS Sections 192 and 353(1)(b), Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act. The sections invoked together tackle online commentary, social media posts or videos that intend to incite public unrest.

In a 30-minute video discussion shared by Malayalam YouTube channel Pathrika, he talked about how he would have handled the protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The student protesters had demanded the resignation of former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak row.

Mohandas allegedly said that he “would have shot” the protesters at Jantar Mantar if he were in control.

"I would impose curfew in a four-square-kilometre area around Jantar Mantar. I would ask the crowd three times to disperse. Then I would shoot. Some will die, some will survive, some will be mutilated. The situation would be brought under control in four hours. The bodies would be collected and taken to the hospital," he said in the video.

In another video, he allegedly said that secular women, who take part in these protests, “enjoy being gang-raped”.

"Gang-rapes will happen. In this case, there won't be any complaints as these are people who like being raped. There are women who like being raped, especially Leftists, secular, democratic and proletarians. Now if someone dies during this, they will turn the person into a martyr," he said.

The videos kicked off a major row, with the leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students Federation (AISF) filing complaints against him. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) led a protest march to Mohandas’s residence in Kochi, demanding the government take stringent action against him for making the remarks.

Mohandas responded to the uproar, explaining that his remarks were intended to be satirical. He claimed that his comments were a small part of a long video and that it lost its humour when it was translated from Malayalam.

RSS South Kerala provincial secretary KB Sreekumar said that Mohandas is not associated with the organisation. He added that the comments were highly condemnable and that the organisation does not agree with his personal views.
