'Stop targeting and witch-hunting students': CJP warns of massive peaceful protest if police harassment continues
CJP has issued a stern warning of new nationwide protests if the government does not honor its commitment to withdraw FIRs filed against student protesters
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a stern warning of fresh nationwide protests if the alleged harassment of students by authorities persists and the government does not fulfill its promise to withdraw First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against protesters. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke emphasized that the party will mobilize a massive, peaceful protest if police action against students continues, urging the government to cease targeting young individuals. This comes after CJP spokesperson Saurav Das expressed concerns that a recent interim order from the Supreme Court, permitting governments to proceed with existing FIRs and investigations related to CJP protests, contradicts the Centre's July 25 assurance of FIR withdrawal and no adverse action against any protester. The CJP had suspended its nationwide agitation in good faith based on this assurance and now fears that authorities might still pursue cases against demonstrators, especially since government lawyers did not oppose the interim order. The party is urging the central government and state governments ruled by the BJP/NDA to present the terms of their assurance to the Supreme Court to ensure transparency and enable informed future decisions, reiterating their demand for the complete withdrawal of all FIRs and a guarantee against any future punitive measures for protesters.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday warned that it will launch fresh nationwide protests if the alleged harassment of students continues and the government fails to honour its assurances on withdrawing FIRs against protesters.
In a statement on X, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the party will return to the streets if police action against students continued.
"If the harassment of students at the hands of the police continues, the Cockroach Janta Party will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. The Government must stop targeting and witch-hunting students," Dipke said.
The warning came soon after CJP spokesperson Saurav Das claimed in a long X post that an interim order of the Supreme Court in petitions related to the CJP protests had raised concerns over the continuation of FIRs against protesters.
According to Das, the court's direction permitting governments to proceed with existing FIRs and investigations contradicted the assurance given by the Centre on July 25 that FIRs would be withdrawn and no protester would face direct or indirect action.
He said the CJP had called off its nationwide agitation in good faith based on that assurance but now feared that governments could continue pursuing cases against protesters.
Das also pointed out that the government's lawyers did not oppose the interim order despite being aware of the discussions and assurances given to the CJP.
The CJP spokesperson urged the Centre and BJP/NDA-ruled state governments to place the terms of the assurance before the apex court to ensure transparency and enable the court to pass an informed order in future proceedings.
He also reiterated CJP's demand that the government withdraw all FIRs, ensure no protester faces future punitive action and honour the commitments made on July 25.
Warning of another agitation, Das said the CJP would have no choice but to resume its nationwide protests if the assurances were not honoured.
"Failing this, and as previously declared, the Cockroach Janta Party will have no option but to resume its nationwide protest to protect the students and young protesters who stood up not for themselves alone, but for the future of this nation. A government that breaks its word cannot expect the youth to remain silent. If the guarantees are dishonoured, the streets of India will once again become the voice of its young," he said.
