The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned that it will hit Delhi streets again if the government fails to provide a written commitment on its assurances by Tuesday and protesters arrested or detained in different parts of the country are not released.

The warning has prompted the Delhi Police to continue with the heightened security arrangements in the national capital. Police personnel and paramilitary forces will remain deployed around Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations across New Delhi and Central Delhi.

CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation was “deeply shocked” that the assurances given by the government had not yet been honoured.

“We expect a written commitment on our demands by tomorrow, Tuesday. If all the protesters are not released and the FIRs are not withdrawn promptly, we will be compelled to organise another sit-in protest here in Delhi,” Ranka said.

The warning comes just days after the CJP called off its 36-day agitation on Saturday following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as the Union education minister and the government's acceptance of its other demands.

According to Ranka, the CJP had reached an understanding with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh on July 20 that FIRs would not be registered against protesters or organisers over the events in Delhi or demonstrations elsewhere in the country. He said there was also an understanding that cases already registered would be withdrawn.

However, the CJP spokesperson alleged that students were continuing to be arrested, detained and booked in Bengal, Bihar, Assam and parts of Delhi.

Ranka said during the third round of talks on Saturday, it was agreed that all FIRs related to the Jantar Mantar protest, the July 20 demonstration and protests in other parts of the country would be withdrawn and that no new cases would be registered against protesters or organisers.

According to him, the CJP had submitted a written draft of the agreement, while the government was expected to provide its written version by Tuesday. Lawyers representing both sides would then review the drafts before the agreement was finalised.

“We expect that if a senior cabinet minister enters into an agreement on behalf of the government, it will be honoured,” Ranka said.

He warned that if the written agreement was not provided by Tuesday and arrested or detained protesters were not released, the CJP would be “compelled to launch protests” again.

Meanwhile, security deployment will remain heightened across New Delhi and Central Delhi amid the possibility of another agitation.

According to news agency PTI, a senior police officer said adequate numbers of Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces would remain deployed around Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations to maintain law and order.

“Force will be deployed to monitor the current situation and maintain law and order in and around the Jantar Mantar area. However, Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site and security always remains high there,” the officer said.

Police are closely monitoring developments and have strengthened security arrangements as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents.
