Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka, along with other members of the Congress party, staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s house on Tuesday.
Videos shared by the party show the party members sitting and shouting slogans.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, "We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday."
The Congress leaders reached the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Karyan Marg in the afternoon.
Video footage show the party sitting on the ground and raising slogans demanding the resignation of Modi and Union minister Amit Shah.
“PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India’s youth," the Congress leader added.
Authorities have urged the Congress leaders to end the sit-in protest outside the high-security zone.
Rahul Gandhi walked approximately 7 kilometres from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence to reach the protest site.
Earlier on Tuesday, as proceedings began in the houses of Parliament, The opposition demanded that the NEET paper leak be discussed while displaying placards and shouting slogans.
Due to the uproar, the proceedings were adjourned first until 12 and then again till 2 pm.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking outside the House, said, "We are not being allowed to speak in Parliament; this is wrong in a democracy."
Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were also present at the protest site to meet Rahul Gandhi.
Priyanka Gandhi earlier told reporters in front of the Parliament that Amit Shah should resign for the lathi charge on students.
“We want to discuss the matter in the house, but the opposition is not allowed to speak. This house belongs to the youth against whom the government is using batons and tear gas. The children’s concerns should be heard, and the education minister should resign.”
The protest comes after both Priyanka and Rahul met with the injured students at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital earlier on Tuesday.
