With thousands trying to march to Parliament seeking Union Education Minister s resignation over alleged examination irregularities, Home Minister Amit Shah met Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday.
The two senior ministers met at Shah's office in the Parliament House complex. However, it is not clear what transpired during the meeting, raising speculations over his resignation.
Pradhan's resignation was one of the key demands of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose founder Abhijeet Dipke launched the protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6.
This comes as Union Minister J.P. Nadda met the protesters in a "cordial atmosphere". Following this, Wangchuk reportedly ended his 23-day hunger strike. Dipke, who began his hunger strike on July 18 after Wangchuk was moved to hospital, also ended his fast. The protesters also submitted a written petition to Nadda around 4 pm while the minister requested the protesters to end their sit-in and cooperate with the government.
“This morning, for the first time, a proposal came from the protesters to hold talks with the government, and our discussions have been ongoing since 11:50 AM. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. An initial verbal discussion was held in detail with their delegation, and they submitted a written petition to me around 4 PM," Nadda said.
Besides Pradhan's resignation, the CJP delegation also demanded Wangchuk's release and ₹1 crore compensation to all NEET aspirants who died by suicide. They also requested the Delhi Police to "immediately stop using brute force on peaceful protesters" as their demands reflect the aspirations of India's youth.
