The Maharashtra Police investigating the death of young realtor Ketan Agarwal has visited the Khatu Shyam Temple in Rajasthan's Sikar district to verify reports that accused Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, had secretly married there.
A team from Pune Rural Police attempted to obtain CCTV footage from the temple premises to corroborate the claims. However, no footage was available to support the alleged marriage, a senior officer was quoted as saying by ANI.
Earlier reports claimed that Siya and Chetan had solemnised a secret marriage at the temple around four months ago and kept it hidden from their families. The alleged marriage reportedly came to light through WhatsApp chats recovered from their mobile phones.
Both Siya and Chetan are currently lodged in Yerawada Central Jail under judicial custody in connection with Ketan's murder.
Ketan Agarwal died on June 18 after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort. While the incident was initially treated as an accident, the investigation later revealed that he was allegedly pushed to his death by his fiancée, Siya, and Chetan.
According to police, Siya confessed that she did not want to marry Ketan and conspired with Chetan to kill him, fearing social stigma if she called off the wedding.
Ketan and Siya got engaged in February and were scheduled to marry in November. Reports said their families had booked a palace in Rajasthan worth ₹17 crore for the wedding celebrations and arranged two private aircraft to ferry guests.
Police said Ketan and Siya had gone trekking at Lohagad Fort on June 18 to celebrate Siya's birthday. Siya initially told investigators that Ketan had slipped into the gorge while posing for photographs. A rescue team recovered his body after a three-hour operation. However, subsequent investigation led police to register a murder case, alleging that Siya and Chetan had planned and executed the killing.
