In a shocking case, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered after being abducted from a footpath in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area.

The police have arrested one suspect in relation to the crime after an investigation.

The incident occurred on Monday morning. The accused, who was identified as Bablu, 25, reportedly kidnapped the 11-year-old from the side of the road.

After the brutal crime, he killed her and disposed of her body in the forests in Mehrauli.

The minor was kidnapped at around 5 am on Monday. About 2 hours later, her family filed a missing person’s report.

A senior police official said, “We are not sure about the sequence of events. However, it is suspected that the accused later decided to drop the minor back to the Mehrauli area, but after seeing the police, he fled with her”

Police soon recovered the child’s body from the Faridabad-Gurugram road.

“The girl was alive, but he later took her to the forest area in Mehrauli and strangled her to death”, the police official added.

The investigators scanned hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and tracked the accused man, who was found with the minor.

He was arrested on Monday evening and confessed during interrogation.

He said that he kidnapped the child from a sidewalk at CDR Chowk. The accused operates an app-based cab service.

The victim's family, who are originally from Bihar, were reportedly homeless and slept on the streets, with the parents being daily wage labourers. Including the victim, the couple has four children. The girl sold balloons and other items on the road.

The family used to live in a rented home. They later faced financial difficulties and had to live on the streets.

The accused man, who has had several other cases filed against him and the family did not know each other.

The body of the minor was sent for a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
