In a dramatic twist in the death of Ketan Agarwal, police have alleged that the Pune businessman did not accidentally fall from Lohagad Fort into a nearly 400 feet deep gorge. Instead, his fiancee and her alleged lover pushed him to death, they claimed.
Ketan, 26, was the son of a prominent Maharashtra construction businessman Vishal Agarwal Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune. He got engaged with Siya Goyal in February this year and they were set to tie the knot Udaipur in November. The couple's families had also booked a luxury palace in Jaipur for ₹17 crore and scheduled two private aircrafts to fly wedding guests.
However, Siya was against the marriage with Ketan. She had allegedly plotted to murder Ketan with the help of her lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
The couple went on a trek at Lohagad Fort on June 18 to celebrate her birthday. By 10.30 am, Siya told authorities that Ketan had slipped while taking photographs and fallen into a deep valley. His body was recovered after a three-hour operation.
However, Ketan's family claimed that he was an experienced trekker and knew the terrain well. After his relatives raised suspicion, a police investigation based on witness accounts and technical evidence revealed that Siya and Chetan conspired to kill Ketan. They also found out that Siya was in constant touch with Chetan.
Pune Rural SSP Sandeep Singh Gill said Siya and Chetan knew each other for about a year and used to work together. Chetan was also present at the crime location. It is believed they pushed Ketan Agarwal from Lohagad Fort, causing his death, he added.
Both of them have been arrested and Lonavala Rural Police have registered a case of murder. Police are also probing if anyone else is involved in the murder.
