In another case of dowry death in Noida, the autopsy report of 24-year-old Deepika Nagar showed extreme external and internal injuries on her body.

The young woman had allegedly jumped to her death from the terrace of her in-laws' home in Greater Noida on Sunday this week.

The post-mortem report recorded external injuries on her body, including bruises on her face, elbow joints, forearm, right thigh, chest and abdomen regions.

A blood clot was also found on the middle and left side of the brain. The spleen was found ruptured, and the heart chambers were found empty. The kidney was also found in a pale condition, and bleeding was found in various parts of the body.

According to a police officer, the report also says that some of the injuries seemed to have been caused before death.

“This possibly implies she was being harassed,” the officer said, adding that efforts are on to arrest the other accused in the case.

There was also: swelling on the right side of the face, circular injury marks found on the right hand, a circular bluish contusion found above the right pelvic bone.

Other external injuries included: swelling on the left elbow joint, injury on the left forearm, a contusion measuring approximately 38 cm x 14 cm on the right thigh, and a bone-deep wound on the left knee joint. There were also abrasions on the left side of the chest and abdomen.

Pankaj Kumar Hans, a private medical practitioner in the city, told Times of India that it was difficult to determine whether the injuries occurred before death or after the fall. He did not draw any conclusion, however.

Deepika, who hails from Kudi Khera village in Greater Noida’s Dadri, was the youngest of three siblings and an integrated BA BEd graduate.

She got married in December 2024. Her family said that they spent nearly Rs 1 crore on the wedding.

However, her in-laws continued to demand more dowry, including a fortune car and cash of Rs 45-50 lakh.

Hours before Deepika died on May 17, her father and some of her relatives had visited the in-laws' house to resolve the dowry matter, after she called him and spoke about assault.

After 12:30 am, he received a call from the in-laws saying she had been injured after falling off the roof of the house.

“When I reached the hospital, I found my daughter lying dead,” Sanjay, her father, recalled.

He alleged that she was killed and thrown from the roof of the house.

“They killed her. After beating her, they threw her down from the roof. They did it together. What is this talk of suicide? This is murder. She has been stabbed in the stomach with a knife or a screwdriver,” the father alleged.

The police officer said that they are questioning the arrested accused and searching for the five absconding in-laws, also mentioned in the FIR.
