The 22-year-old woman, who was brutally murdered by an ex-employee at her family residence in Delhi, was a promising youngster certain to reach great heights. She had topped her Class 12 exams, earned an engineering degree from an IIT, and was preparing for the UPSC.

The accused, Rahul, knew that the family had set up a study room for her on the upper storey, which was somewhat secluded to give her the peace of mind needed to study. Being a domestic help, Rahul was aware that the young woman would be alone in this room in the morning hours while her parents went out jogging. Thus, he went straight to this room, where the unsuspecting victim was busy with her books after having woken up early.

Victim’s thump couldn’t open vault

Rahul reportedly became more violent when the girl bravely fought back, derailing his plan to overpower her easily. He struck her on the head with appliances and objects in the study room, which caused severe head injuries. The police suspect that he sexually assaulted the unconscious girl following the attack, Aaj Tak said in a report.

Rahul was aware that the family safe required biometric authentication and thus dragged the victim to the room downstairs where it was kept, the Hindi news outlet said. However, her thumb could not open the vault, presumably because she was dead by then, the police suspect. The accused then tried to break open the locker with a screwdriver to remove the cash and jewellery.

Rahul's body was bloodied as a consequence of the attack and the subsequent dragging of the seriously injured woman, and he fled after changing into a pair of clothes that belonged to the victim's brother.

Alwar native Rahul, 19, was arrested from Dwarka by the Delhi Police while he was holed up following the crime. Further probes proved that he had left his home town after raping the wife of a friend—meaning the teenager raped two women within 48 hours or less.

The victim is survived by her father, who is a senior IRS bureaucrat, her mother, who is a doctor, and an elder brother, who reportedly holds a senior role at an MNC.
