A 21-year-old man was arrested by police from Kot village in Faridabad after he allegedly stalked and stabbed a 30-year-old school teacher to death at her workplace on Monday.

The accused, Amit, entered the Saraswati Senior Secondary School in Sikrona through the main gate in the morning at around 9:35 am with a white cloth over his face.

He then proceeded to enter the school to find the victim, Sandhya Karhana, who taught class 2 students, by asking students and a staff member on the pretext that her husband had come to meet her. Witnesses said that the accused knew her husband’s name.

CCTV footage of the incident showed the accused stabbing Karhana around 30 times in the span of 30 seconds. In her neck, face, stomach and chest using a knife

The murder took place in front of around 300 to 350 students who watched the attack happen from the window, a Hindustan Times report noted.

Hearing the screams, the school administrator ran to the scene, but the accused attacked him and fled on his bike, which reportedly had no number plate.

The accused Amit confessed to police that he wanted to marry Sandhya but that she had refused about two years ago.

The two came in contact because the victim used to teach at a school in Kot village. The school’s building was owned by Amit’s family. The accused also had reportedly been a student at the same school.

After she rejected the man, he proceeded to stalk and harass the woman for two years.

A year ago, the victim also had to change her place of work due to the harassment. As a precaution, Sandhya had refused to own a mobile phone and took a bus to go to the school,

When he followed her to the new school, Karhana lodged a molestation complaint with the police. The charges were settled, and the accused was made to apologise. Karhana’s husband, Vickas Gurjar, said that the accused even had a scuffle with her during the incident.

The accused man’s family had evicted him from their property after he began harassing the woman, NavBharat Times reported.

Karhana is survived by her husband and two children: a 7-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter.
