The murder of a 27-year-old man in Byadarahalli, Bengaluru, has been cracked by the police, and his lover has been arrested for the alleged plotting and execution of the crime. The victim, Kiran, was burnt to death as his girlfriend, Prerna, was convinced that he was not planning to marry her.
According to local media reports, the duo was of the same age and had been working together at a telecom firm. They had been in a relationship since Valentine's Day, when Prerna confessed her feelings for Kiran.
However, Prerna started to sense that Kiran was becoming less affectionate towards her. The final blow came when the man wished his ex-lover a happy birthday. Convinced that he was not fully committed to the relationship, she decided to kill him and take her own life, TV9 said in a report.
Offered ‘Western’ passion
As per a plan she had revised many times in her head, Kiran was invited to Prerna’s rented accommodation in Anjana Nagar on Magadi Road at 2 pm on Tuesday. After talking for a while, the woman reportedly asked the man to undress and blindfolded him using a handkerchief. He was then restrained to a piece of furniture. When Kiran asked what she was doing, the accused reportedly said that she was trying "something different" and was inspired by what "couples do abroad". This convinced Kiran to stay put rather than trying to use force, the TV9 report added. His hands and legs were reportedly tied using nylon strings.
She reportedly set the man on fire after pouring a mixture of kerosene and petrol over him.
Horror made accused disoriented
Originally, Prerna wanted to die in the same flames that engulfed her partner. However, the intensity of the flames was extreme, and Kiran's cries for help further scared her. Although she had pills and poison ready in case she survived the flames, the confusion and the neighbours' arrival meant she could not reach them.

The neighbours said that she was half-naked and had wrapped herself in a bedsheet, with burnt hair and minor injuries, when they found her.
Initially, it was claimed that Kiran had set himself on fire. She claimed to be in the washroom when the incident occurred. Although there were reasons to suspect suicide, the police investigation confirmed that the accused tied his hands and feet and set him on fire.
