Kerala Assembly polls: Does Ramesh Pisharody hold a slight edge over Sobha Surendran in Palakkad?

Palakkad election campaigning has intensified, with the Congress holding a narrow lead over the BJP. The LDF is focusing on consolidating its vote bank in this high-stakes triangular contest, where any shift in support could significantly impact the outcome

As Palakkad enters the final stretch of campaigning, the contest has reached a fever pitch. While the UDF’s Ramesh Pisharody appears to hold a narrow lead, the NDA’s Sobha Surendran continues to mount a formidable challenge. Current ground reports suggest a marginal advantage for the UDF.

Backed by the organisational support of Shafi Parambil, the UDF campaign has become highly active and visible. Supporters cite this seamless coordination at the booth level as a major factor in the candidate's growing momentum.

Rahul Gandhi's visit to Palakkad on Monday is also to give a boost to the campaign of Pisharody.

On the other hand, Sobha Surendran is making significant inroads in urban areas. Buoyed by the Prime Minister's high-profile campaign stop, the BJP has intensified its door-to-door outreach, aiming to convert the massive crowds seen at recent rallies into a decisive electoral lead.

Union Agricultural Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is set to campaign for Sobha this week.

Meanwhile, the LDF is concentrating on consolidating its traditional vote bank and shoring up support in key pockets. LDF's candidate N.M.R. Razak is seen as a candidate who can pull a significant portion of the minority vote, which has historically leaned towards the Congress.

While the front trails in the immediate 'celebrity' narrative, its ability to hold its ground is critical; any fluctuation in the LDF's share could fundamentally alter the final margins and dictate the winner in this high-stakes triangular contest.

The CPM district secretary, E.N. Suresh Babu, has raised fresh allegations of an electoral understanding between the BJP and the Congress in the constituency.
