Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nainar Nagenthran said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the Thiruparankundram Murugan temple while he comes to Madurai for the Tamil Nadu assembly polls campaign. The prime minister is expected to visit Madurai on February 23.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is planning to kickstart its poll campaign in Tamil Nadu with Modi's public meeting in Madurai. Senior leaders from the BJP and All India Anna Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) inspected multiple venues in Madurai on Monday for Modi's rally.

Talking to presspersons, Nagenthran said a huge rally will be organised in Madurai during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides Madurai, Modi will take part in poll campaigns in Chennai, Trichy and one more city in the poll-bound state. In Madurai, the rally is likely to be held at Amma ground.

BJP state president Nainar Nagendran, AIADMK deputy leader R P Udhayakumar, former minister Sellur Raju, AIADMK legislators Rajan Chellappa, Periya Pullan, senior BJP leaders H Raja, Pon Radhakrishnan and Kesava Vinayagam visited the Amma Ground. "if a public meeting is held in Madurai, Prime MinisterModi is likely to visit the Murugan temple in Thiruparankundram," Nagenthran said.

Nagenthran's also denied rumours that the BJP has sought a power-sharing arrangement with AIADMK if the alliance comes to power. Speculations are abuzz that the BJP has sought 56 seats and three ministerial berths as part of the alliance.

Modi's visit comes amidst a raging row over lighting a lamp at the deepathoon (lamp pillar) atop the hill. Though the Madras High Court directed the state government to make arrangements for lighting a lamp at the pillar, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led state government refused to abide by the orders, citing law and order issues.

The Tamil Nadu government has now approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Madras High Court's orders. The DMK maintains that the pillar atop the hill is not a deepathoon, but a survey stone.

There is no need for the BJP to put pressure on Vijay. Even the old Parasakthi film has been given many obstacles by the Censor Board. The Congress may insist on a coalition government. We don't have to do everything they do. Our only aim is to get rid of the DMK. We are not saying we want a coalition government. There are rumours that the BJP wants 56 seats and three ministers," he said.
