The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) slammed the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu over the Thiruparankundram row and charged the state government politicised the issue for electoral gains. The party charged DMK is moving the Supreme Court only to intensify the issue.

TVK national spokesperson, Felix Gerald, told ANI that Madras High Court has ridiculed the state government on the issue. "It is a shadow boxing between the Bharatiya Janata Party and DMK," he charged.

Gerald charged that the DMK government politicised the issue since it does not have any other poll planks for 2026 assembly polls. They highly politicised the issue, keeping in mind the 2026 elections, he charged.

"They have been exposed now. They (DMK) will drag this issue till the election and try to intensify it. But, people know the actual game," he added. It's a game between the BJP and the DMK.," Gerald added.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday upheld the single judge order directing the temple authorities to light the lamp on the stone pillar atop the Thiruparankundram hill on Tuesday. Dismissing the petitions moved by the state government, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department, and the Sikander Dargah, the bench called the DMK government's apprehensions about the law and order an "imaginary ghost."

"It is ridiculous and hard to believe the fear of the mighty state that by allowing representatives of the Devasthanam to light the lamp at the stone pillar near the top of the hill located within its territory of Devasthanam land, on a particular day in a year, will cause disturbance to public peace. Of course, it may happen only if such a disturbance is sponsored by the State itself. We pray no State should stoop to that level to achieve their political agenda," it  said.
