The Luthra brothers, key accused in the Goa nightclub fire case, are likely to be deported from India to Thailand early next week, officials in the know of developments said. According to the Goa police, Thailand authorities have initiated the process for deporting the accused.

Official sources told PTI that authorities in Thailand are initiating the process to deport Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, the co-owners of the Goa nightclub. "The Indian embassy in Bangkok is in close touch with the Thai authorities in the case," the officials said.

"The Thai authorities are presently taking action as per local laws, including sending brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra back to India," the official said. The brothers who own the Goa nightclub  'Birch by Romeo Lane', where the tragedy occurred, escaped from India soon after the fire broke out.

The Luthras were detained in Phuket, Thailand soon after a Blue Corner Notice was issued through Interpol against the accused. The accused were detained on Wednesday, while a Delhi court was hearing an anticipatory bail plea moved by the brothers. The court refused to grant interim relief to the accused.

According to Goa police, while the accused claimed they left the country as part of pre-planned meeting, the brothers had booked tickets to Thailand only hours after the fire broke out. Five managers and staff members have already been arrested by Goa police in connection with the fire that broke out at the nightclub located in Arpora, 25km from Panaji, around midnight on December 6. As many as 25 people died in the fire. The deceased include tourists and staff members, and most of them died due to suffocation. The staff members were trapped in the kitchen and basement area of the club, police said.

Goa police said, "The deportation procedures of Luthra brothers are currently under process, and Goa police is in continuous coordination with the central agencies."
