The Telangana government has decided to name prominent streets and roads of the Financial District, Hyderabad, after global corporations in a bid to give the city better global visibility. The Financial District houses several major IT and financial services companies and is considered the crown jewel of the city. The state government has approved the name changes just ahead of the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025, which is being conducted on December 8 and 9.

The government has so far approved five names – Donald Trump Avenue, Google Street, Microsoft Road, Wipro Junction and Ratan Tata Interchange. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy first floated the idea at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Conclave in New Delhi on November 13, arguing that streets named after major companies would carry more recall value than those named after political leaders.

A kilometre-long road adjacent to the US Consulate General in the Financial District will be called “Donald Trump Avenue”. This is the second road in the world to get the US President’s name. A 6.5-km road was named “President Donald J. Trump Avenue” in Hialeah city, Florida. If this is considered a street name change, it could be the world’s first, as claimed by state government officials. The new name is expected to further enhance the image of the Financial District, which is already known as “Little New York” in Hyderabad. The state government will communicate the name change to the US Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs.

The road running alongside the upcoming Google campus — the company’s largest facility outside the United States — will be rechristened Google Street. Interestingly, locals already refer to this road by the same name. The prominent road that leads to the Financial District, on which a large Microsoft campus is located, will now be called Microsoft Road. A well-known junction closer to the Wipro campus will be formally called Wipro Junction. This junction has long been known as Wipro Junction, and the name will now be formalised.

The naming exercise also includes a tribute to industry leadership. The new greenfield radial road connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Raviryala with the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) will be named after the late Ratan Tata in recognition of his contributions to India’s technology and industrial landscape.

The new names could come into effect once the formal processes are concluded. In his remarks at the USISPF Conclave, Revanth Reddy also mentioned the names of TCS and Meta, which could indicate that the state government may plan further street name changes in the future.
