A high-profile road leading to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad will be named after US President Donald Trump, the Telangana government announced on Sunday.

The stretch will be officially called ‘Donald Trump Avenue’. The state government will write to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the US Embassy to inform them of the plans.

Earlier this year, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, while addressing the annual US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) conclave in Delhi, had proposed naming key roads in Hyderabad after leading global corporations.

A prominent stretch in the city will be named ‘Google Street' to recognise the global impact and contribution of Google and Google Maps. The road is along Google's upcoming campus, set to be the company's largest outside the US.

The government has also decided to name the upcoming greenfield radial road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala with the proposed Radial Ring Road (RRR) after late industrialist Ratan Tata.

Additional naming proposals include “Wipro Junction” and “Microsoft Road”, recognising the long-standing presence and investment of these companies in the city.

According to reports, the government is considering dedicating additional roads in honour of distinguished individuals and corporations.

Notably, the announcement came a day before the state government’s ‘Telangana Rising Global Summit’, which will be held in Hyderabad on December 8 and 9.

The BJP, meanwhile, slammed the Congress government’s move and asked it to rename Hyderabad as ‘Bhagyanagar’.

"If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning," Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar said in a post on X.
