West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday and said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was Shah's trick to implement president's rule in the state.

Accusing the BJP of stirring communal divide in the state, Banerjee said over half of those who died in SIR-related incidents were Hindus. Addressing an anti-SIR rally in Berhampore, Banerjee said she is yet to fill out her enumeration forms and will do so only after ensuring names of all eligible voters are included in the list.

Banerjee accused the BJP of indulging in "communal politics" ahead of the 2026 assembly polls. "The BJP is indulging in religious politics over SIR. More than half of those who died in SIR-related incidents were Hindus. Don't cut the very branch you are sitting on," she charged.

"Don't be afraid of SIR. If we hadn't allowed it, they would have imposed President's rule. Do you understand Amit Shah's trick? We will fight, we will win. They cannot starve us; they cannot take our property," the chief minister charged.

Saying she has not filled her enumeration forms, Banerjee said, "I have not yet done it. I will do it only after all your names are included. I have instructed 'May I Help You' camps in every booth to help people."

Banerjee said West Bengal will remain inclusive, and she will not allow NRC or detention camps in the state. "Even if they slit my throat, no one will be driven out," she declared. The Trinamool Congress leader warned minority voters against vote-splitting, pointing to the Bihar Assembly polls. "In Bihar, they put up four independents in each seat. The BJP benefited. If Independents cut votes, the loss is yours," she warned.
