Faridabad module 'treasurer' Adeel Rather's deleted messages show he repeatedly begged for salary

One of the key members of the Faridabad module, Dr Adeel Rather, is said to have sought advanced salary, as per leaked WhatsApp chats.

In one of the messages, Adeel says he is in "dire need of money". Adeel had deleted the messages before his arrest. However, the messages were recovered from the phone of Rather's co-worker at a Saharanpur hospital in Uttar Pradesh. The duo exchanged messages between September 5 and 9.

Adeel, who was the "treasurer" of the Faridabad module, is said to contributed Rs 8 lakh to fund the terror activities of the group.

On September 5, he first messaged the staffer, saying he wanted money. "Good afternoon, sir... I had requested for the salary to be credited... Will be your great help sir... in dire need of money."

A few hours later, he sent another message, saying, "Please deposit it into my own account sir. The account that I provided earlier."

The next day, he messaged yet again, "Good morning, sir, please do it... Will be grateful."

On September 7, he insisted again, saying, "Good afternoon... Need salary ASAP sir... in need of money... Plz will be your great help."

The final message sent on September 9 said, "Plz do it tomorrow... I m in very need sir".

Adeel was initially arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police on November 6 for putting up posters supporting Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar on October 27. He was nabbed from the Sahranpur Hospital.

Until October 2024, Adeel was working at Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag. On November 10, police recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from Adeel's locker in GMC Anantnag. Delhi suicide bomber had once worked with Adeel at the same medical college.

The investigation led to the discovery of explosives stored by Dr Muzammil Shakeel in Faridabad. Following this, Muzammil and Dr Shaheen Shahid from whose Swift Dzire explosives were found were arrested.
