As more details emerge regarding the Delhi Red Fort Blast, the CCTV visuals show the Hyundai i20, which is suspected to have exploded, staying still in the parking lot for three hours immediately before the explosion.

According to reports, the vehicle entered the parking area adjacent to the mosque at 3.19pm, remaining there until 6.48pm on Monday. The driver of the vehicle, suspected to be Dr Umar Mohammad, linked to the Faridabad terror module, did not alight from the vehicle for all three hours. He left the spot before 7pm, and within minutes, an explosion tore through the traffic signal at Subhash Marg near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station.

Though the official sources are yet to confirm whether the driver of the vehicle was indeed Umar, questions are raised as to why he remained in the vehicle for three hours. Investigating agencies are also probing whether he was waiting for someone or someone’s instructions, according to reports. It also has to be seen whether he was waiting for peak hour to ensure maximum damage.

He is said to have escaped from Faridabad after learning about the arrest of his accomplices by the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir police. The raids have led to the arrest of key members of the module and the seizure of 2,900kg of suspected explosives.

Speculations are that Umar used Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to  carry out the attack. “They placed a detonator in the car and carried out the terror attack in a crowded area near Red Fort," sources told NDTV.
