In a shocking development in Chhattisgarh, a senior IPS officer has been accused of sexual harassment and physical exploitation by the wife of a subordinate officer. The Inspector General (IG)-ranked IPS officer has been sexually harassing her for seven years, a media report said.
According to the complainant, the IPS officer threatened to transfer her husband to Chhattisgarh's Naxal-affected regions if she didn't comply with his demands. She was forced to remain on video calls, some lasting for about five hours, by the man, the news reports said. The virtual harassment reportedly began after it became impossible for the man to meet her physically after being posted to a police training academy in Chandkhuri—a village around 27km away from Raipur.
According to the complainant, the IPS officer used to summon her to his bungalow in the absence of his wife and behave inappropriately, Jagran said in a report. Whenever she made a deliberate attempt to break free from him, the officer used threats and pressure to force her to continue to be in touch, the Hindi daily added.
Complaint and counter-complaint
The husband of the woman is reportedly a sub-inspector in the Bilaspur limits. According to the complaint, the harassment began when the accused was posted as IG in Surguja and escalated after his transfer to Bilaspur. Meanwhile, the IPS officer has also written a formal complaint to DGP Arundev Gautam, Jagran said. He claimed the allegations were false and part of a conspiracy.
According to him, the sub-inspector’s wife has been blackmailing him for years and mentally harassing his family. He alleged that the woman secretly recorded videos of his private moments and began blackmailing him with them. She entered his house by force, showed obscene photos to the staff, and has led to a severe dispute with his wife. The woman had previously barged into his office with poison, threatening to kill herself there if he didn’t follow her orders, the letter added.
