Tamil Nadu reported heavy rainfall on Tuesday with the Regional Meteorological Centre issuing red alert for four districts along the coast for Wednesday. This comes after a low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, around 400 km from Chennai.
On October 22, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu are under red alert. The Union Territory of Puducherry will also be under red alert.

Districts like Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai and Ranipet will be under orange alert on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore and Villupuram were under red alert. The weatherman had issued a red alert for Puducherry and Karaikal as well.

Several other districts were put under orange alert Tuesday, including Chennai. Others include Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram, Chengalpettu and Tiruvallur.
Thousands of acres of paddy crop harvesting have been affected by continuous rain in Tirunelveli's Ambasamudram.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday reviewed the situation and directed officials to take precautions and keep relief camps ready for people affected by rain. He advised the teams to be on stand by with necessary equipment like JCB machines, boats, motor pumps, trucks and saws to mitigate the damage caused by rain.
Fisherfolk have been warned against venturing into open sea till October 26 amid squally winds of up to 45 to65 kmph are expected.
