The Indian Meteorological Department’s warning that heavy rains could drench the capital city has prompted the government to step up measures. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated that authorities have been taking precautionary measures for the past three months. “We are ready to face any amount of rain in Chennai,” he told reporters.
Not just Chennai, the Meteorological Department has issued an important announcement for 18 districts in Tamil Nadu as the North West monsoon intensifies.
The northeast monsoon has begun in Tamil Nadu and will intensify further in the coming days. There is also an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the South Andaman and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to this, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by October 21. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and strengthen into a depression in the next 24 hours. The public has also been advised to be safe as there will be strong winds and thunder, and lightning in some places.
