A lawmaker from Telangana has sparked outrage after he recently made a controversial remark on 'love jihad’, a term coined by the right-wing groups to target the affair between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman.
In a video which has been doing the rounds on social media, T. Raja Singh, the MLA from Hyderabad's Goshamahal, could be seen urging parents to “poison” their girls if they become victims of ‘love jihad’ and refuse to re-convert.
Singh, who has a penchant for making controversial comments, made this remark during a Dussehra celebration event in Madhya Pradesh.
According to reports, Singh also allegedly made a defamatory remark against Prophet Mohammad in the same event. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the IT Act, after a complaint was lodged at Shalibanda Police Station on Saturday.

According to an NDTV report, the Dussehra event was filled with 'Jai Shri Ram' chants and over 1,100 young people were 'initiated' into the right-wing group, Hindu Yuva Vahini, and presented with symbolic swords.
Singh, known for his strong Hindutva views, had been arrested in 2022 over his alleged remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed. He was later granted bail.
Last year, he urged the Christian community to “unite” with the Hindus to resist the ‘love jihad’.
Singh, a former BJP leader, resigned from the primary membership of the party in June this year after the high command chose former MLC N. Ramchander Rao as the Telangana party president.
