A low-pressure area over Vidarbha has created favourable conditions for rainfall across Maharashtra. This may cause widespread heavy rainfall for at least a couple of more days, Marathi media reports said on Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai for three hours, and an update is expected after 11:30 AM. In the meantime, Mumbai should brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning, along with strong winds of 30–40 km per hour.

Since Sunday night, Mumbai and its adjoining areas have been receiving heavy rainfall. Many localities in areas including Andheri, Jogeshwari, Kandivali, and Borivali are witnessing waterlogging, and suburban Mumbai has also been hit. The public can contact the Mumbai Municipal Corporation's main control room at 1916 for assistance or official information.
Waterlogging was reported in the King's Circle railway station area, while local train services have been badly hit, Lokmat said in a report. After heavy rains overnight and in the morning, commuters complained of water accumulation on tracks at Dadar, Kurla, and Bandra railway stations, and local trains running late by 10 to 15 minutes. The Central and Harbour lines experienced delays, while services were disrupted near Chunabhatti station due to waterlogging on the tracks, the report added. Spokespersons of the Western Railway and the Central Railway, however, said their suburban services were running normally, despite continuous rainfall since last night, news agency PTI confirmed.

Heavy rains reportedly caused waterlogging in areas such as Matunga, Sion, Byculla, Mahalaxmi, Peddar Road, Kurla, Chembur, and low-lying areas of South Mumbai as well. The IMD has asked people to remain indoors and step out only if necessary. However, on a Monday, it remains unlikely that office-goers could afford to stay indoors, and many parts of Mumbai are witnessing traffic congestion. Rainfall intensity in Mumbai is expected to increase throughout the day, with the possibility of very heavy showers in short intervals in some areas.
Along with Mumbai, Raigad district has also been issued a Red Alert for Monday. Ahmednagar, Beed, Pune, and Solapur districts may experience winds of 40–50 km per hour, the IMD has warned.
