In a heart-wrenching incident, a 37-year-old woman jumped to death with her mentally ill son from the 13th floor of their Greater Noida apartment.

According to reports, Sakshi Chawla was depressed over the prolonged illness of her 11-year-old son, Daksh, who had been undergoing treatment for a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Sakshi’s husband, Darpan, a chartered accountant, told the police that he was in another room when the incident occurred around 10 am on Saturday. On hearing a scream, he rushed to the balcony and found both his wife and son on the ground.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem. Police suspect that the acute mental stress forced the woman to take the extreme step.

Earlier reports had termed it a case of accident, saying Daksh ran fast to jump down from the balcony and, in an attempt to save her son, Sakshi ran, but both of them fell and died.

However, the investigators later recovered a suicide note, addressed to Darpan, from Sakshi’s room. "We are leaving this world... Sorry. We do not want to trouble you anymore. Your life should not be ruined because of us. No one is responsible for our death,” she reportedly said in the note.

Neighbours told police that Daksh had been undergoing treatment for a developmental condition for a long time, a Times of India report said. The child was not able to attend school and was heavily dependent on medicines.
