In a heart-wrenching incident, a 37-year-old woman jumped to death with her mentally-ill son from the 13th floor of their Greater Noida apartment on Sunday.

According to reports, Sakshi Chawla was depressed over the prolonged illness of her 11-year-old son, Daksh, who had been undergoing treatment for years for a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Sakshi’s husband Darpan, a chartered accountant, told police that he was in another room when the incident took place around 10 am. On reaching a scream, he rushed to the balcony and found both his wife and son on the ground.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem. Police suspect that the mental stress forced the woman to take the extreme step.

The investigators recovered a suicide note, addressed to Darpan, from Sakshi’s room. "We are leaving this world... Sorry. We do not want to trouble you anymore. Your life should not be ruined because of us. No one is responsible for our death,” she reportedly said in the note.

Neighbours told police that Daksh had been undergoing treatment for a developmental condition for a long time, a Times of India report said. The child was not able to attend school and was heavily dependent on medicines.
