Some of the biggest, most talented minds in the Indian cinema and streaming space are joining hands for Prime Video's latest enterprise, "Job Trafficking". Directed and created by Prashanth Nair, who created and co-directed the acclaimed "Trial By Fire" for Netflix, the eight-episode show has begun rolling cameras.
Touted as a "hard-hitting" survival drama that swirls around the world of industrialised online scams, the series is headlined by Roshan Mathew ("Poached", "Choked"), Nimrat Kaur ("The Lunchbox", "Dasvi"), Kavya Trehan ("The Royals"), and Pavan Malhotra ("Tabbar", "Fouja"), among others.
Pratik Khanuja, Sameer Chand, Vikesh Bhutani, and Shujaat Saudagar are serving as producers on the series, with locations spanning India and Southeast Asia. The show reportedly addresses the terrifying, real-world criminal machinery of "pig butchering" financial scams. The plot uniquely looks behind the digital keyboard to tell a dual-sided story. It follows everyday people — such as a housewife who lost everything, a trapped young man, and an overly compromised CEO — who find their hopes weaponised. It highlights how unsuspecting, ambitious young job seekers are lured by fake overseas job offers, trafficked across borders, and violently forced to execute the very scams that destroy innocent lives.
"Job Trafficking" is highly promising as Prashant Nair has proved himself to be a very accomplished filmmaker specialising in gritty, hard-hitting social dramas. Aside from "Trial by Fire", he had directed two integral episodes for Prime Video's "Made in Heaven" (episodes: "A Royal Affair" and "Pride and Prejudice") in the first season. He also directed "Tryst with Destiny", an anthology feature film released on SonyLIV. It had won the Best Screenplay award at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. He also directed the feature "Umrika", a 2015 comedy-drama, starring Suraj Sharma and Tony Revolori, which won the Audience Award (World Cinema Dramatic) at the Sundance Film Festival.
Roshan Mathew, on the other hand, has by now established himself as a versatile actor who transitions seamlessly between Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil cinema, with a strong footprint in digital streaming. His past collaborations with Prime Video include the series "Poacher" (directed by Richie Mehta), Mahesh Narayanan's thriller "C U Soon", and the Malayalam political thriller "Kuruthi" (opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran). His other major streaming work includes "Darlings" (Netflix), "Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai" (Netflix), and "Kankhajura" (SonyLIV).
Nimrat Kaur has appeared in the acclaimed shows “School of Lies” (JioHotstar), “The Family Man” and “The Test Case” (the last two for Prime Video).
