In response to a Bloomberg report, which said Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote a 'secret letter' to President Droupadi Murmu in March, the Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the claim.
“The report claiming a letter was sent to President Droupadi Murmu by her Chinese counterpart is incorrect," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

The Bloomberg report, quoting an Indian official in know of the alleged letter, claimed that Xi wrote to President Murmu in a bid to reset ties between the two countries. The report also claimed that the Chinese president expressed concerns that any US deals would harm China's interests.
Bloomberg went on to report that the message from China was later conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which the Centre started taking measures to reset ties with Beijing. It also claimed that China released a statement from Xi that hailed the ties between New Delhi and Beijing as a "dragon-elephant tango" soon after sending the letter to the Indian President.
This comes as PM Modi met Xi Jinping during the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. It was Modi's first China visit since the 2020 Galwan border clash.
With India growing closer to China, there have been reports that US President Donald Trump might skip the Quad summit scheduled in India later this year. Responding to the issue, Jaiswal said, "The Quad is a valuable forum for discussion on share interests in a number of areas. The Leaders' Summit is scheduled through diplomatic consultations among the four partners."
