Bangladesh previously alleged that Sheikh Hasina's Awami League, which is banned in Bangladesh, has set up offices in Delhi and Kolkata and urged India to ensure their closure.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Wednesday rubbished allegations raised by Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus government that Awami League members residing in India are carrying out anti-Dhaka activities.
The ministry asserted that India does not allow any foreign political party to operate on its soil, dubbing the allegations by the interim Bangladeshi government as "misplaced".

It should be noted that ousted Bangladeshi leader and former PM Sheikh Hasina is staying in India in self-exile ever since she was forced to leave Dhaka in August 2024. Dhaka previously alleged that Hasina's Awami League, which is banned in Bangladesh, has set up offices in Delhi and Kolkata and urged India to ensure their closure.
Bangladeshi foreign ministry also claimed that many senior Awami leaders accused of criminal cases in Bangladesh are absconding and remain in India. It went on to allege that Awami leaders, disguised as members of an NGO, held a public outreach even at the Delhi Press Club on July 21, 2025, and distributed booklets to members of the press. "To date, several reports in Indian media affirm increasing overtures of the party while being on the Indian soil," the Bangladeshi ministry said in a press statement.

The Centre clarified that it is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh activities by Awami League members in the country or any acts that are violating Indian law.
"The Government does not allow political activities against other countries to be carried out from Indian soil. The Press Statement by the Interim Government of Bangladesh is thus misplaced," the MEA said.
The ministry said that it expects "free, fair and inclusive" elections to be held in Bangladesh at the earliest, reflecting the mandate of the people.
