Telangana is set for a wet and stormy week ahead, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms in various parts of Telangana—including Hyderabad—from August 11 to 17.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, 11 districts are expected to receive heavy rain on Monday, which include Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhongir, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy.

Light to moderate rain is expected in most districts each day, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers likely in north and central Telangana early in the week. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40km/h have also been predicted in several areas.
From Monday to Wednesday, districts such as Adilabad, Nirmal, Warangal, Khammam, and parts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are likely to see heavy rainfall. Hyderabad itself may see multiple spells of heavy rain, potentially causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions during peak hours.
Weekend showers in parts of the capital have already brought 3–5cm of rain, with a few pockets crossing 10cm, as per a Telangana Today report. Notably, Amberpet recorded the highest rainfall in Hyderabad at 11cm, followed by Himayatnagar with 10 cm on Saturday.
It is anticipated that rainfall activity will gradually move southward by Thursday and Friday, with lighter showers across certain northern districts.
However, the IMD cautions that unexpected downpours are still possible and that monsoon conditions are still active.
Following the heavy downpour over the weekend, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy conducted a surprise inspection of flood-affected areas in Hyderabad, and instructed officials to improve drainage systems in low-lying and flood-prone colonies to prevent further waterlogging.
