A day care worker was arrested after she allegedly beat and bit a 15-month-old baby. The incident was caught on CCTV camera at a day care centre at the Paras Tierea residential complex in Noida's Sector 137.

The incident was discovered after the toddler’s parents noticed marks on her thighs. What they initially thought was some allergic reaction was identified as bite marks after a visit to the doctor. The parents, Monica and Sandeep Kumar, had been leaving the baby at the Blippi Pre-school and Day Care for two hours a day since May 21.

The parents, who were horrified by the bite marks, confronted the residential complex authorities and asked them to show the daycare’s CCTV footage.

In the video that has gone viral, the attendant, Sonali, a 16-year-old, is seen pacing the room with the crying infant girl. She is then seen stopping to drop her several times. She is also seen hitting the child on her back with a plastic bat while she cried. At one point in the footage, the woman was seen biting the baby’s leg.

The parent then filed a complaint at the Sector 142 police station, and an FIR was registered. They alleged that despite the child crying, the head of the day care, Charu, made no effort to protect and comfort her.

When confronted by the parents, the owner of the day care and the attendant verbally abused and threatened them when they were confronted about the assault on the baby.

According to sources who spoke to the India Times, the teenager only joined the centre 10 days earlier and was given no formal training.

A police officer confirmed that “A case has been registered under relevant sections based on the complaint. The accused maid has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.”

The case was registered under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) of BNS. Sonali has been taken into police custody.

The toddler has undergone a medical examination for injuries.
