The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding terrorists opened fire at the forces, who retaliated, a senior official told PTI. Security forces have cordoned off the area and the operation is continuing to track down remaining terrorists.
The Akhal operation comes two days after Operation Mahadev, in which security forces killed three foreign terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Harwan area near the Dachigam National Park in Srinagar. The terrorists - Suleiman, Afghani and Jibran - were killed while a discussion was underway in Parliament on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
