The Bihar police on Tuesday said that it had arrested another accused in the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka.

According to ADGP Kundan Krishnan, the accused was the shooter who opened fire and killed prominent businessman Gopal Khemka (a BJP leader) late on Friday night outside his residence in Patna.

“The facts that have come in the investigation are that the shooter has been arrested, and we have the evidence against him," he said, at a press conference in Bihar.

At a press conference in Patna on Tuesday, DGP Vinay Kumar explained that the firearm used to shoot Khemka had also been recovered from a hideout of the alleged shooter.

"As stated earlier, the gunman Umesh Yadav was arrested yesterday, besides Ajay Shaw, by whom he was paid an advance amount of Rs 50,000 for murdering Khemka," DGP Kumar clarified.

ADGP Krishnan also explained that the police had evidence that a man identified as Ashok Sahu was involved in allegedly giving money to the hitmen that killed Gopal Khemka.

“There can be many reasons behind this, many call records have to be checked," he said.

According to police sources, Khemka and Sahu had at least two altercations: firstly, over the election of the Bankipore Club in Patna last year, and secondly, when Sahu once snatched a guard's gun and pointed it at Khemka, threatening to teach him a lesson, before the two men were pulled apart, an NDTV report said.

This development follows the encounter killing of Vikas (alias Raja)—another key suspect in Khemka's murder—in the early hours of Tuesday.

"On spotting the police personnel (at around 2:25 AM), he (Vikas) tried to escape and also opened fire. The officers retaliated, and he was killed," an officer explained, as per a PTI report. No officers were injured in the gun fight.
