Amid global tensions, 'Yoga pause button that humanity needs', says PM Modi celebrating International Yoga Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that yoga is the pause button humanity needs to breathe amid global tensions. The prime minister took part in International Yoga Day celebrations in Vishakapatnam and performed yoga along with nearly 5 lakh participants. 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' is the theme of International Yoga Day this year.

Addressing the gathering, the prime minister said yoga offers a pathway to peace amid conflict in various parts of the world. "Yoga is the pause button humanity needs, to breathe, to balance, to become whole again. Yoga should guide the world from conflict to cooperation, and from stress to solutions”, Modi added.

Modi said the theme of this year's Yoga Day reflects the health of every entity on earth is interconnected. "Yoga teaches us we are not isolated individuals but integral parts of nature. Initially, we learn to care for our own health and wellness, but gradually, this care expands to our environment, society, and the planet. Yoga is a profound personal discipline that, at the same time, serves as a collective system—one that transitions individuals from Me to We", the prime minister said. 

The prime minister said efforts are being made to strengthen yoga through modern research. Modi said India is promoting evidence-based therapy in the field of yoga through its medical and research institutions. Lauding AIIMS- New Delhi's research, Modi said research shows yoga has significant impact in the treatment of cardiac and neurological disorders, as well as in improving women’s health and mental well-being.

 Andhra Pradesh Governor Syed Abdul Nazeer,  Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and other cabinet ministers took part in the event in Vishakapatnam. Yoga events are being performed at over 3 lakh locations across India to mark the day.
