After the Mumbai train mishap, that claimed the lives of four passengers, during the peak hours on Monday morning, the Railway Ministry has decided to introduce automatic door-closing facilities in coaches of all local trains in Mumbai Suburban.
At least four passengers died and over six people were injured in a train mishap at Mumbra railway station in Thane district. The incident took place around 9 am. According to the officials, overcrowding was found to be the main reason behind the incident.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the railway administration is probing the matter. Taking to X, Fadnavis called the incident "very unfortunate".
Central Railway's principal chief safety officer (PCSO) will probe the Mumbra train accident. An inspection was carried out during the day by PCSO C.K. Prasad by visiting the site.
The preliminary investigation found that the passengers were travelling on the footboard.

CR chief public relations officer Swapnil Nila said that in order to avoid similar incidents in the future, all new locals will be introduced with an automatic door closure system, while existing trains will be retrofitted with it.
A railway team reached the spot at Mumbra station in the evening and took measurements of the gap between the two fast line (Up and Down) tracks there as well.
As per the officials, eight passengers were found injured in the gap between two parallel railway tracks between Mumbra and Diwa railway stations in the wee hours of Monday morning. Railway officers said Karjat-11 local from CSMT was crossing Kasara-10 local at Mumbra when the incident took place.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde also expressed grief and assured support for the victims and their families.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar called the incident a grim reminder of the urgent need to address overcrowding and passenger safety in Mumbai’s suburban rail system.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP from Thane, Naresh Mhaske called for a thorough investigation.
