Muskaan Rastogi and Suhail, accused of murdering and dismembering the former's husband Saurabh Rajput, requested to be put in adjacent barracks in Uttar Pradesh's Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail, reports said. However, the lovers's demand was denied by the jail authorities.

The brutal murder of 29-year-old Merchant Navy Officer Saurabh Rajput in Meerut came to light on Wednesday and primary investigation showed that Muskan Rastogi, 27, convinced her drug-addict lover Suhail to join her plot to murder her husband. Rajput was killed when he returned from London to celebrate the birthday of the couple's only daughter. He was drugged and stabbed to death by the duo who later cut his body into pieces to be sealed inside a drum using cement. 

Suhail and Muskaan confessed to having killed the victim after they were brought in for questioning on suspicion. Saurabh Rajput's family reached out to the Meerut Police as he remained unreachable on the phone for days.

Meanwhile, jail authorities told the press that Muskaan Rastogi refused to eat food on her arrival at the jail. She was initially silent and later the two requested to be put in adjacent barracks. They were allotted barracks far away from one another in the men's and women's divisions of the prison.

Muskaan Rastogi cried a lot on her first night in prison, news agency PTI was told by jail authorities. She didn't try to interact with any inmates or touch the food. The duo were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Wednesday. A group of lawyers tried to assault them outside the court, reports said.
