Sahil, the lover of Muskaan Rastogi, was not initially part of the plot to kill Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput but was convinced by the woman to help her over time, news reports said. Sahil, 25, was addicted to drugs and his unbridled mind was manipulated by his lover to help her kill her husband.
Sahil and Muskaan used drugs, the parents of the latter told NDTV after the gruesome murder that shocked Meerut came to light. The 27-year-old woman lost weight as a result of drug abuse ever since Saurabh Rajput went abroad. While he believed it was due to the stress of being alone, the real reason should have been substance use, her parents told the press.
How Muskaan tricked Sahil into joining the murder plot
After learning Sahil has become vulnerable due to his addiction, Muskaan created a fake Snapchat account to get in touch with him. She convinced the youth that his late mother was communicating with him through the account, NDTV quoted UP Police as saying.
The social media profile didn't have the name of Sahil's mother but he was convinced that his dead mother had reincarnated and was using the account to communicate with him. Gradually, Muskaan took control over Sahil's mind and convinced him that he should join the woman's efforts to kill Rajput on his return, NDTV said. He was certain that his drug use with Muskaan would be stopped by her husband.
As per Muskaan's plans, the duo tried to drug Rajput since February 25. However, it was only on March 4 that they finally managed to make him consume pills that made him unconscious. Later, they stabbed him to death and cut his body into 15 pieces to be sealed inside a drum using cement.
Muskaan was on the lookout for places to hide her husband once the deed was done. She reportedly asked her friends for places where she could bury puja leftovers. However, it didn't work out.
After killing her husband, Muskaan texted several of his family members from his phone to convince them that he was in Manali. She reportedly wanted the family to believe that he left for London from the hills. However, her plan failed when people became suspicious as he was not answering any calls. Muskaan Rastogi and Sahil confessed to having killed him when interrogated by the Meerut Police.
