The Bharatiya Janata Paty said it would boycott an all-party meeting called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on March 5 to discuss the strategy to be adopted by the state with regard to the proposed delimitation exercise.
In a letter to Stalin, BJP state president K. Annamalai alleged that the chief minister was spreading "imaginary fears" and "deliberately lying" about delimitation.
"We firmly believe that you have misconstrued the delimitation exercise and have convened this all-party meeting to spread your imaginary fears and deliberately lie about it even before the means and methods through which the exercise is planned to be carried out are officially rolled out," he said.
The BJP leader alleged that Stalin raised the issues of delimitation and the three-language formula to divert people's attention from his "misgovernance".
On behalf of @BJP4TamilNadu, we wish to inform Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru @mkstalin avl that @BJP4TamilNadu has decided not to participate in the all-party meeting convened on March 5, 2025, and we have detailed our reasons for the non-participation in our letter written to… pic.twitter.com/IkHrSkfQQq

Annamalai further noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a recent public meeting in Coimbatore, had asserted that the southern states would not lose a single parliament seat after the delimitation.
He said Stalin had failed to inform people of the source of information that the delimitation would be carried out based on population.
"Since this is an imaginary and baseless fear you are spreading, we have decided not to participate in the all-party meeting convened on March 5, 2025," he added.
Stalin had earlier remarked that the delimitation could reduce Tamil Nadu's representation in Parliament from 39 to 31, if the total number of seats is capped at the present 543.
“It is a Damocles sword hanging over the head of the southern states," he had said.
