Delhi CM Atishi submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday following which he issued an order to dissolve the legislative assembly.

On Saturday, Atishi, who retained her Kalkaji seat, thanked her supporters and the people of Delhi for trusting her, saying she accepts the voters' decision. However, she added that AAP will continue to fight BJP's dictatorship and hooliganism.

Atishi was sworn in as Delhi chief minister in September 2024 after AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal resigned following corruption allegations. In the 2025 Delhi assembly polls, she is the lone woman MLA from the AAP.

On Saturday, the General Administration Department prohibited the files and electronic records at the Delhi Secretariat from being moved out without approval. Entry was also restricted into the complex following the elections results and individuals need to verify their identity and establish their purpose of visit to enter.

Pointing out that the steps were taken to address security concerns and safety of records, the GAD directed branch in-charges under various departments and offices to ensure the files are secured.

The BJP won 48 seats out of the total 70 while the AAP was reduced to just 22. AAP had won 62 seats in the 2020 Delhi assembly elections. The Congress did not win any seats, repeating the trend that was seen in 2020 and 2015.

Once Modi returns from his US visit, the swearing-in ceremony will be held. The saffron party is yet to decide its chief minister candidate. Parvesh Verma who won against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is among the frontrunners to become Delhi CM.
