Responding sternly to Aam Aadmi Party’s allegations of bias in Delhi Assembly polls, the Election Commission said it decided to exercise “constitutional restraint” against such deliberate pressure tactics.
Reacting to repeated personal attacks against Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the poll body noted it is not a single-member body but a three-member commission. “The 3-member Commission collectively noted repeated deliberate pressure tactics to malign ECI in Delhi Elections, as if it is a single member body & decided to have constitutional restraint, absorbing such outbursts with sagacity, stoically & not to be swayed by such insinuations,” the poll body tweeted.

The poll body asserted over one lakh officials involved in the conduct of the Delhi Assembly polls are functioning in a non-partisan manner. “Action on issues raised by political parties & candidates are taken in each instance by over 1.5 lakh officials in #DelhiAssemblyElection2025 who are functioning within established legal framework, robust processes & SoPs ensuring fair play & non partisan conduct,” it added.

The Election Commission’s response comes after AAP’s repeated attacks against the poll body, accusing it of bias and favouring the Bharatiya Janata Party in the election. The Delhi police, during the early hours of Tuesday, registered a case against Atishi and her supporters for violating the model code of conduct. Police have also registered a case against BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri’s son Manish for violating the poll code.
Earlier, the Election Commission had sought a response from AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal twice for his “poisoning Yamuna” remark. The AAP leader also charged CEC Rajiv Kumar is favouring the BJP aiming for a job post-retirement.
