Bihar police have arrested a woman from Buxar for allegedly murdering her stepdaughter and setting her body on fire. Police recovered charred remains of the victim from the woman’s house. The girl’s father was reportedly living in Delhi, away from the family.
According to police, the victim was identified as Aanchal Kumari (8), and an investigation was launched after the victim’s kin lodged a missing complaint. Police arrested the woman on charges of killing her stepdaughter.
Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya told PTI, "The victim's family had lodged a missing complaint on Saturday. Police immediately launched a search operation to trace the girl." Arya added the victim’s remains were collected from a wooden box at her residence in Naya Bhojpur area.

“When police searched the house, they found the charred body stuffed in a gunny bag concealed in a wooden box inside a room. During preliminary investigation, the victim's stepmother confessed to have committed the crime," he said. The SP added, "The victim's family had lodged a missing complaint on Saturday. Police immediately launched a search operation to trace the girl."
Buxar police said the woman, after killing her stepdaughter, stuffed the body in the gunny bag and concealed it in the wooden box. "Based on the woman's confessional statement and evidence collected from the spot, police arrested her. The body has been sent for the scientific examination. She did not tell the police the reason behind committing the crime. The victim's father lives in Delhi. The matter is being further examined," the SP told PTI.
